King Island
Located in the Bass Strait between Victoria and Tasmania, King Island is a remote Australian destination renowned for its rugged natural beauty, world-class produce and exceptional links golf.
The island has built an international reputation for its premium grass-fed beef, artisan cheeses and fresh Southern Rock Lobster (crayfish), making it a favourite destination for food lovers as well as golfers.
Surrounded by dramatic coastlines, rolling dunes and wild Southern Ocean landscapes, King Island is also home to two of Australia’s most celebrated links courses — Cape Wickham Links and Ocean Dunes — where golf is played against a backdrop of windswept fairways, crashing waves and breathtaking ocean views.
Beyond the golf, visitors are drawn to the island’s historic lighthouses, fascinating shipwreck stories and peaceful natural environment, offering a unique and authentic Australian escape where life slows down and the focus turns to great golf, remarkable scenery and outstanding local produce.
Set along the dramatic northern coastline of King Island, Cape Wickham Links is widely regarded as one of the finest modern links courses in the world. Ranked among Australia’s top golf courses, the layout stretches across rolling coastal dunes with breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean from nearly every hole.
Designed by Mike DeVries and Darius Oliver, the course embraces the natural landscape, with wide strategic fairways, rugged bunkering and greens that blend seamlessly into the surrounding terrain. The ever-present coastal winds ensure that no two rounds are ever the same, challenging golfers to adapt their strategy and shot-making throughout the round.
The course takes its name from the nearby Cape Wickham Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Australia, which stands proudly beside the opening holes and provides one of the most spectacular backdrops in world golf. With dramatic cliffside holes, sweeping ocean vistas and an authentic links feel, Cape Wickham delivers an unforgettable golfing experience.
Located just along the coast from Cape Wickham, Ocean Dunes offers another spectacular links adventure on King Island’s rugged shoreline.
Designed by Graeme Grant, this exciting layout winds through towering sand dunes and dramatic coastal terrain, with many holes perched high above the Southern Ocean. The course embraces bold elevation changes, exhilarating carries and panoramic ocean views that make every hole visually striking.
Ocean Dunes captures the spirit of true links golf, where the elements play a major role and creativity is rewarded. With its wild coastal setting, fast-running fairways and unforgettable scenery, the course provides a thrilling complement to Cape Wickham and cements King Island’s reputation as one of Australia’s great golf destinations.
